Team India will tour Zimbabwe for a three-match ODI series ahead of the Asia Cup 2022. The Indian side will be led by KL Rahul, who was recently announced fit for the fixtures. It is going to be India’s first-ever tour to Zimbabwe since 2016.
The Men in Blue recently handed a 4-1 T20I series defeat to West Indies and would be keen to continue their rhyme ahead of the multi-nation tournament. On the other side, Zimbabwe will be hoping to display their best game to upset the visitors.
Zimbabwe batter Innocent Kaia believes that his side will beat India in the series 1-0. He also expressed his desire to notch up hundreds and end up as the leading run-getting in the series.
“2-1 in favour of Zimbabwe. We win the series. As for personal expectations, I want to be the leading run scorer and score hundreds. Simple plan. I just want to score runs to be the leading run scorer in the series. That’s my goal,” he said.
The right-handed batter also revealed how the head coach, David Houghton, changed things at Zimbabwe’s camp. He says the players are able to play more positively and are no longer afraid to play their natural game.
“It’s not about the ticking of things, but it’s just the mindset. When David (Houghton, head coach) came in, he always just told us and taught us that we have to play positive cricket and that’s what we are doing. We are not afraid to play our shots anymore; it’s just that things have changed and it’s not something that is really big,” he added.
Zimbabwe won the ODI and T20I series 2-1 against Bangladesh in the recently concluded tour. It is their first major win at home since 2015-16 when they beat Ireland 2-1 in an ODI series.
