Unmukt Chand is one of the players who has recently retired from Indian cricket to pursue a career in the USA. For a player who was considered the next big thing in Indian cricket, the recent developments were never expected. While he did not fulfil his dream of playing for India, in this article, we take a look at the two players in Unmukt Chand’s U19 WC winning squad who played for the country.
Chand was the highest run-scorer for India in that tournament. He even struck a century in the final against Australia to help India lift the trophy. Many expected him to go on and achieve great things, but unfortunately, that did not happen.
1) Sandeep Sharma
Sandeep Sharma is one of the players in Unmukt Chand’s U19 WC winning squad who donned the Indian jersey. The Punjab player has played just only one T20I, though. This came after he was consistent in the IPL with his overs in the power play. He was seen as someone who could become a powerplay specialist for Team India. However, due to many players competing for the same role, Sandeep did not get sufficient chances. In the 2012 U19 World Cup, Sandeep collected 12 wickets and was one of the best bowlers for India.
2) Hanuma Vihari
Hanuma Vihari did not have a great role to play in the 2012 U19 World Cup, but he happens to be the most successful cricketer from that batch at the moment. Vihari is currently part of the Test team and is seen as one of the long-term options to feature in India’s middle-order in the longer format of the game. The Andhra cricketer has also had a few memorable performances with India. He has struck a few centuries while also helping India pull off an unlikely draw in Australia recently.
