IPL 2025 mega auction has become a major topic of discussion in the last few days. The Indian Premier League organizers planned to have a mega auction in 2025, but at the meeting in Mumbai, some team owners were entirely against the idea of having a mega auction this year.

Six teams reportedly wanted the mega auction to be postponed. It is understandable to see Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad arguing against a mega auction because they have a settled squad, which made it to the final in IPL 2024.

Even Rajasthan Royals have their core settled, while Mumbai Indians have a host of superstars to retain. It seemed strange though that the following two teams did not want a mega auction for IPL 2025.

    1. Gujarat Titans do not want a mega auction in IPL 2025

Gujarat Titans had one of the weakest squads in IPL history last season. Their batting did not have the same firepower in the absence of Hardik Pandya, while Mohammed Shami’s absence and Rashid Khan’s injury break before the season hurt the team as well.

It would be excellent for GT if they get to retain Shami, Gill and Rashid and then build a squad around them in a mega auction. GT have many players, who are overpriced at the moment.

    2. Chennai Super Kings

Like Gujarat Titans, CSK can manage to build a fresh squad with only four or five names from the current team. Shivam Dube, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Devon Conway and Matheesha Pathirana can be the six retentions. Rest of the squad can be released, and a fresh team can be built with the aforementioned names being the core group.
