Just a few days after the IPL, the T20 World Cup has started in the USA and West Indies. This is the first ever edition of the T20 World Cup, which is happening in the United States. Being the co-hosts, the USA team has earned a direct entry into the main event.
Since the sport of cricket is not that popular among the local people of the USA, the administrators have relied on the foreigners to fill up the spots in their 15-man squad. In fact, the captain of the USA team, Monank Patel hails from the Anand district of Gujarat in India.
While Monank never made it to Team India or IPL, here’s a list of two such USA players of T20 World Cup who played in the world’s toughest T20 league.
1. USA all-rounder Corey Anderson played for 3 teams in IPL
Before moving to the United States, all-rounder Corey Anderson was a member of the New Zealand team. He was an explosive left-handed batter, who could also bowl right-arm medium pace. His abilities helped him become a regular member in the Kiwi squad.
He also made it to the IPL, with Mumbai Indians signing him first. After that, Anderson had stints with the Delhi Daredevils and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru as well.
2. Harmeet Singh
Harmeet Singh was the Man of the Match in USA’s historic T20I win against Bangladesh a few days ago. He was a part of India’s U-19 World Cup 2012 winning team. In 2013, Singh played the one and only IPL game of his career for the Rajasthan Royals against Pune Warriors. Singh shared the dressing room with Sanju Samson, Rahul Dravid and Ajinkya Rahane in that game.
