The T20 World Cup is all set to get underway in October on Australian pitches. With a lot to unpack during the tournament, teams will also have to go through some major changes after the marquee event. It’s common for teams to make big decisions post any World Cup as they look to build a team for the next edition.

Without any ado, we look at three captains who might step down from the captaincy roles of their respective teams after the T20 World Cup 2022:

1) Aaron Finch – Australia

Aaron Finch recently announced his retirement from the ODI format and he can do the same in the shortest format of the game. He has struggled to find form for some time now. It wouldn’t make sense for him to continue playing only in the T20I format.

Hence, he is likely to step down from the captaincy position after the tournament. Cricket Australia would be willing to hand over the limited-overs captaincy to only one person.

2) Rohit Sharma – India

Rohit Sharma was named captain after Virat Kohli stepped down from the position. There was a lot of speculation about the T20I captaincy as many thought that someone young should be appointed, keeping their long-term vision in mind. But the BCCI went with the experienced man as the T20 World Cup was approaching.

However, post the tournament, the 35-year-old might step down and hand over the duties to Hardik Pandya or Jasprit Bumrah, who can take the team forward. Rohit Sharma’s inconsistency in the shortest format of the game has also been a matter of concern for the Men in Blue.

3) Mohammad Nabi – Afghanistan

Mohammad Nabi was given the role of captain after Rashid Khan had stepped down from the honorable role. However, he is already 37-year-old heading into the tournament. On that note, he will not be suitable for the next edition of the tournament.

Afghanistan will look to appoint a younger captain to lead the side. Nabi, who has been finding it hard to find form, might also take retirement to focus on T20 leagues across the globe.
