In the past, we have seen many instances of middle-order batters finding success as an opener. The likes of Rohit Sharma are prime examples of the same. However, we could see a reverse trend in the coming years, as well. A few players are already on that route. On that note, in this article, we take a look at three genuine openers who might become permanent middle-order batter in the near future.

    1) KL Rahul

KL Rahul is a genuine opener who is already batting in the middle-order in ODIs. Now, it would not be a surprise if he makes the shift in T20Is, as well. With Ishan Kishan performing well, India will be promised with quick starts if they have the young southpaw at the top. Therefore, KL could play in the middle-order. The same could happen in Tests if players such as Shubman Gill start to do well as openers.

    2) Jonny Bairstow

Jonny Bairstow is one of the genuine openers who might become permanent middle-order batter in the near future. While he is already a middle-order batter in Tests, we could see him essay the same role in the other two formats, as well. With the likes of Jason Roy doing well and Jos Buttler the opening option in T20Is, Bairstow might be forced to come down. England anyways needs an experienced hand in the absence of Eoin Morgan. Hence, Bairstow could move to the middle-order and Phil Salt might get more chances at the top.
