The IPL is arguably the most competitive T20 league across the globe as all the top cricketers participate in the two-month league. It is also said that if a player can perform in the lucrative league, his stakes get high to secure a position in the national team. The Indian team have also started picking players on terms of performance in the T20 league.

Team India have already announced their 15-man squad alongside four reserves for the T20 World Cup. While everyone was expecting a couple of surprises from the selectors following India’s poor exit in the Asia Cup 2022, the squad was very similar with only obvious changes.

There are plenty of names that will be missing from the marquee event despite being a specialist in the shortest format of the game. In this article, we will look at three players who fetched huge amounts of money in IPL 2022 auction but failed to secure spot in India’s World Cup squad.

1) Ishan Kishan – INR 15.25 crores

After releasing Ishan Kishan, Mumbai Indians broke bank to land him back at Wankhede Stadium. It was the first time that the Mumbai-based franchise spent more than 10 crores to buy a player in an auction. This indicates the amount of belief they have in Kishan’s abilities.

Even in the Indian team, he was considered a back-up opener who was very much in the setup. However, in the past few months he has lost his position owing to inconsistency with the bat. As a result, he missed out on the squad that will fly to Australia in October.

2) Deepak Chahar – INR 14 crores

Deepak Chahar was the second most expensive player in the IPL 2022 auction and he returned to the Chennai franchise. He was very much in demand for his ability to effectively bowl in powerplay overs. He can swing the new ball both ways, making life difficult for the batters and is also handy with the bat down the order.

However, the right-handed pacer suffered an injury which saw him ruled out of the IPL season and then miss a couple of India assignments. It didn’t allow him to get match-fit and win the trust of Indian selections again. For now, he has been kept as a reserve player who can walk into the side if any other player gets injured and ruled out of the tournament.

3) Shardul Thakur – INR 10.75 crores

Shardul Thakur was a regular name in the national team a couple of years ago. He has the special ability to pick up big wickets at crucial times, which can change the course of the game. However, he leaks too many runs in the process, which obviously doesn’t help his side much.

He eventually lost his position in the side and since then has been struggling to make a comeback. Even in IPL 2022, he didn’t have a great outing with Delhi Capitals, who spent a big sum to acquire his services. Hopefully, he can regain the trust of the selectors by performing well in the upcoming tournaments.
