The coming edition of the Indian Premier League is all set to start in March. The cash-rich league had a record-breaking auction in December that saw two players get a deal worth more than INR 20 crore for the first time in history. Mitchell Starc was signed by the Kolkata Knight Riders at a price of INR 24.75 crore.
Hardik Pandya was traded to the Mumbai Indians in an all-cash deal where MI will pay INR 15 crore to the Gujarat Titans and an undisclosed transfer fee. Later, MI also selected Hardik as their next captain. Since the captain is the most important player in the team, it is normal to get more than 12 crore or so. But there are three captains in the IPL 2024 who are getting even less than INR 8 crore.
3. Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill will replace Hardik Pandya as the captain of the Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2024. The 24-year-old has been the top scorer in international cricket in the last year or so. He was also the “Orange Cap” holder in the last edition, with 890 runs in just 17 innings. Gill is one of the biggest names in recent times. He is getting INR 8 crore from the franchise per season.
2. Faf du Plessis
Faf du Plessis has been a big name in the Indian Premier League. He is among the highest run-scorers as an overseas star in the IPL. He is leading Royal Challenger Bangalore. Du Plessis was released by the Chennai Super Kings in 2022, and RCB signed him for INR 7 crore. He led the team in two seasons and is getting less than the number of players on his own team.
1. Aiden Markram
The base price of some of the international stars in the IPL is INR 2 crore, while the captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad is earning just INR 2.6 crore per season from the franchise. Markram has established himself as one of the best all-format players in international cricket and has improved his hitting ability. He led the Sunrisers franchise to win the inaugural SA20. Hence, they signed him in the IPL 2022 auction for INR 2.6 crore and made him the captain, replacing Kane Williamson. But there are a number of players who are getting way more money than him in his own team.
