Canada made their T20 World Cup debut just a few days ago against USA. The Canadian team suffered a defeat in that game, but they still have three more matches to go in this group stage. Their next match is against Ireland tomorrow morning in New York, followed by clashes against India and Pakistan in the upcoming days.
Cricket is not new to Canada, but for some reason, the local talents of Canada have rarely shown interest in playing cricket. Even in the ongoing T20 World Cup, most of the players playing for the Canadian team were born outside the North American country. In fact, three of them come from West Indies. Here’s a list of those three names.
1. Dilon Heylinger is playing for Canada in T20 World Cup 2024
Dilon Heylinger is a right-arm medium pacer bowler from Guyana. The 34-year-old has the experience of playing in Global T20 Canada, having represented Montreal Tigers and Surrey Jaguars in the competition.
Heylinger has played eight ODIs and 37 T20Is for the Canadian team so far. He has accounted for 40 wickets in the shortest format of the game, with his best figures being 5/16.
2. Nicholas Kirton
Batting all-rounder Nicholas Kirton was born on May 6, 1998 in Barbados. The upcoming star bats left-handed, and he had represented Barbados at domestic as well as U-19 level. Now, he plays for Canada, having scored 315 runs in 15 T20I innings.
3. Jeremy Gordon
Another Guyana-based cricketer who is playing for Canada in this mega event is Jeremy Gordon. He was born in the New Amsterdam region of Guyana, and he bowls right-arm pace, having taken 17 wickets in 13 T20Is.
