In the modern era of cricket, the fans always give more importance to the quality of commentators when watching a cricket match. The broadcasters provide fans with options of commentary in various languages like English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Marathi, Bengali and Malayalam. A majority of the fans used to watch cricket in English only, but the trend has changed lately, with Indian fans giving priority to regional languages.
As a result, it becomes very important to have good and experienced commentators. Now, a new competition has emerged in the broadcasting world, with Disney Star (Star Sports) gaining the TV rights of IPL and Viacom18 (Jio Cinema) having the rights of the live streaming. Both broadcasters will have a different panel of commentators, and here are four commentators who did commentary for Star Sports but have left for Jio Cinema now.
1. One of the new commentators – Suresh Raina
Suresh Raina made his commentary debut in IPL 2022. Nicknamed Mr. IPL, Raina made his presence felt in the Hindi commentary box with his expert views. Raina has moved to Jio Cinema now. He was also a part of their auction panel.
2. One of the experienced commentators – Aakash Chopra
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has made a name for himself with his phenomenal commentary work on the mic. He has also built a successful YouTube channel and has millions of fans now. Chopra shockingly left Star Sports at the end of 2022. He will now work as a freelancer, and he has confirmed that he will be doing commentary for Jio Cinema in IPL 2023.
3. Robin Uthappa
Robin Uthappa had joined the Star Sports panel for commentary after the IPL season ended. However, his stint did not last long as he has already moved to Jio Cinema.
4. Scott Styris
Scott Styris was a regular member of the Star Sports Select Dugout during the IPL. The former New Zealand cricketer has switched to Jio Cinema as well.
