IPL 2023 is exciting at the moment with matches going down to the wire very often. A few players like Quinton de Kock are yet to get a game in IPL 2023. At the same time, there are a few players who have not been utilized fully. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of four talented players who have been under-utilized in the ongoing IPL 2023.
IPL playing XI’s and utilization of resources comes down purely to the tactics and the requirements for the team. Therefore, a few players have not been lucky in this regard.
1) Tim Southee – Kolkata Knight Riders
KKR has a clear problem in the pace department. Yes, Lockie Ferguson might be having an injury issue but Tim Southee, who played the first few games, is available. Especially when Shardul Thakur was injured, KKR could have clearly made use of his services. However, David Wiese was used as the overseas cricketer but not Southee. The Kiwi veteran is difficult to face in the powerplay and he also has some variations in the death overs. Hence, it was surprising in his case.
2) Sai Sudharsan – Gujarat Titans
Sai Sudharsan is one of the talented players who have been under-utilized in IPL 2023. The Tamil Nadu batter operated at No.3 for GT for a few games. He did well in these matches but was later dropped. It is not sure if there is an injury but it appears that it could be a tactical move. A highly talented cricketer, he would be a better fit at No.3 instead of Hardik Pandya, although the skipper has done well in this role.
3) Alzarri Joseph – Gujarat Titans
Just like Sai, even Alzarri is not being used much by GT. He had a few forgettable outings but that is common in IPL. But, Joseph is a top T20 pacer and can trouble the batters with his raw pace in the middle-overs. Nevertheless, once Joshua Little leaves to play for Ireland, there is a chance that the West Indian pacer will get his due.
4) Sikandar Raza – Punjab Kings
Sikandar Raza is also one of the talented players who have been under-utilized in IPL 2023. The Zimbabwe all-rounder clearly won a game for Punjab Kings and later helped the team cross the line against CSK. However, he has been in and out of the team to accommodate Matthew Short, who is yet to find his feet in IPL. It is actually astonishing that Raza is not being used well by PBKS. In fact, he can operate at No.3 as it would add stability to the batting line-up. It needs to be seen if Punjab would take any steps in this regard.
