Rohit Sharma is reportedly still unhappy with the way Mumbai Indians handled the captaincy change ahead of IPL 2024. According to a report in Dainik Jagran, all is not well between Rohit and Hardik Pandya as far as the captaincy matter is concerned.
The report stated that BCCI took the input of captain Rohit for deciding the next coach and captain. Considering that Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill have replaced Hardik in the leadership group, it shows that Rohit has seemingly not moved on from what happened in IPL 2024.
As a result, the report states that Rohit Sharma could be on his way out from Mumbai Indians unless he is offered captaincy. If he leaves MI, the following four teams may even end up spending 25 crore to acquire the Indian captain at the mega auction.
1. Punjab Kings will desperately chase Rohit Sharma
It has been 10 years since Punjab Kings qualified for the IPL playoffs. Despite being in the tournament since the first season, the Kings have not won the championship even once. A five-time IPL winning captain like Rohit will be welcome with open hands at Punjab Kings.
2. RCB can chase Rohit Sharma
RCB already have a star player in the form of Virat Kohli, but he stepped down as captain after the 2021 season. Faf du Plessis is 40 now, which is why RCB may need a new skipper. The potential of having Rohit and Virat in the same IPL team will make RCB’s matches must-watch as well.
3. Delhi Capitals
There are reports claiming that Delhi Capitals are undecided over Rishabh Pant’s retention. There are rumors of a trade to CSK as well. Hence, if Pant goes to CSK, DC will need a new skipper, and a champion captain like Rohit can benefit DC a lot.
4. Lucknow Super Giants
LSG owner Goenka had a public dispute with captain KL Rahul in the last IPL season. Rahul is reportedly headed out of LSG, with RCB probably being his next destination. LSG have spent big money at the auction in the past, and if they need a new captain, they won’t shy away from going all out for Rohit.
