As India gear up for the mighty Test series against Australia Down Under, this can prove to be the last Test for them on Australian soil. Just to give a quick heads up, in the next three years after this Border-Gavaskar Trophy, there will be no Test matches which will be played in Australia which takes the year to 2027.
With India’s most seasoned players showcasing their class and calibre, they are very much rooted in twilight. Here are five players who might be playing their last Test on Australian soil.
#1 Rohit Sharma
The Indian captain, Rohit Sharma continues to be a rock at the top for the Indian batting unit. With 4241 runs scored from 109 innings, Rohit has averaged a staggering 42.83. He has also struck 12 centuries and 18 half-centuries. However, at 37 already, three years from now, he will be 40 and trying to be a part of the Indian squad at the ripe age, life may be challenging.
#2 Virat Kohli
At 35 years of age, Virat Kohli might have somewhat of gasleft in his tank to be a part of the BGT three years from now. However, it is a challenge considering the fact that he has already given up T20 cricket. VK has been a part of 117 Tests, batted in 199 innings and has managed to amass 9035 runs at an average of 48.31.
#3 Ravichandran Ashwin
One of India’s most seasoned off-spinner continues to ply his trade in the Indian colours for 13 staggering years. After 533 wickets in Test and 3460 runs with six Test centuries, Ravichandran Ashwin has been an absolute stalwart for India. At 38, he is already in his twilight and by the time the BGT arrives, he will be 41. Once again a slightly a difficult age to be a part of the Indian cricket team and that too Down Under.
#4 Ravindra Jadeja
One of India’s finest all-rounder has already stepped down from the shortest format of the game after India’s successful haul in the T20 World Cup. With 309 Test wickets and 3215 runs at an average of 35.72, Ravindra Jadeja has been a consistent provider for India in Test matches. However, he is also 35 years old and by the time the next Test series arrives, he will be 38 or 39.
#5 KL Rahul
Rahul might still continue to play considering the fact that he is just 32 years old. However, his recent form in international cricket has been slightly shaky and if he doesn’t arrest his decline quickly enough, he might not be there in the Indian plans until the next BGT arrives in Australia. However, until now his numbers have been promising but he needs consistency to keep himself alive in the international echelons.
