Unless you grab all the opportunities that you get, it’s almost impossible to represent Team India for a long time. Sometimes, you might not even get to debut for your country. This is demoralizing especially after you started your career on a good note.

1. Unmukt Chand – One Cricketer Who Was Remarkably Promising At U19 Level

Unmukt Chand was an absolute superstar at the U19 level. Even before he managed to make his India debut, Chand’s popularity was so high that he had featured in commercial advertisements alongside the likes of MS Dhoni. However, the plan did not materialize as expected for the Delhi lad. In both IPL and at the domestic level, Chand did not make use of his opportunities. Hence, he had to be dropped by even his state team for many games. An India debut looks very far for the cricketer now. Rumours are floating around that Chand might now shift to the United States to continue his cricketing career there.

The 2008 U19 World Cup squad gave many talented cricketers to the senior squad. The likes of Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja and Manish Pandey were part of this team. However, at the showpiece event, it was actually Tanmay Srivatsava who had top-scored for India. In fact, the UP cricketer was the best batsman at that event. But the cricketer could not sustain at the highest level. He could not make an impact at IPL despite being promising at the U19 level. The player announced his retirement in 2020.

3. Yo Mahesh

Yo Mahesh was rated highly when he started out. He was also extremely promising at the U19 level with his performances. In the 2006 U19 World Cup, the pacer collected eleven wickets and was the best pacer for India. He also did decently well in the first edition of IPL. There were consistent performances from his side in the domestic competitions too. Yet, the cricketer could not make his senior debut for Team India.

4. Gaurav Dhiman – An All-Rounder Who Was Promising At U19 Level

Now, although it is a U19 team, it is difficult to make an impression as a batsman if you are surrounded by the likes of Cheteshwar Pujara and Rohit Sharma. However, Gaurav Dhiman from Karnataka did just that. He was known for his attacking style of batsmanship and also impressed often with his bowling. He was touted to be a future all-rounder for the country. However, he could just not improve in his career. Frequent patches of barren form led to him losing out on many opportunities.

5. Manvinder Bisla

Manvinder Bisla was India’s highest run-scorer at the 2002 U19 World Cup. He was promising at the U19 level and being a wicket-keeper, many felt he would break into the Indian Team. However, things did not go that way. Although he impressed in IPL, too, Bisla could not get into the senior squad.
