The Sunrisers Hyderabad have been one of the most consistent performers in the last few years of the Indian Premier League. They have made it to the playoffs in all of the last five IPL seasons. Although Hyderabad could not win their first match of IPL 2021, David Warner’s team has the potential to make it big this year.

Many fans would know that the Deccan Chargers earlier represented the Deccan region, but they left IPL after the 2012 season. The BCCI asked for tenders for new teams, and then, the Sunrisers Hyderabad joined in IPL 2013. SRH won their first IPL championship in the year 2016.

Over the last eight seasons, SRH have signed some high-profile names in the IPL. However, there were some players they wished to sign in IPL but could not. Here’s a list of such five players.

Since he had performed well in the IPL before, quite a few franchises ran behind him in the mega auction. The Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Delhi Capitals were the last two teams left in the race. Eventually, the Delhi-based franchise secured his services with a bid of 9 crores.

2. Evin Lewis

West Indian opener Evin Lewis made a name for himself with his marvelous performances against the Indian cricket team. In the T20I matches between West Indies and India, Lewis always performed brilliantly.

He entered the 2018 IPL Auction with a base price of INR 1.5 crore. The Mumbai Indians bid for him first, but the Sunrisers Hyderabad did not allow them to sign him at the base price. The bidding war progressed until MI won it with a bid of 3.8 crore.

3. Jofra Archer could have been playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL

English fast bowler Jofra Archer came into the spotlight after his top-quality performances in the Big Bash League. Archer was born in West Indies but he represents England in international cricket.

Archer kept his base price only INR 40 lakh. The Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Rajasthan Royals had an intense bidding war for him, where RR won with a 7.2 crore bid. Archer still is a member of RR squad.

4. KL Rahul could have returned to Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2018

Many fans would remember KL Rahul was once played for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL. However, the Orange Army traded him to the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

RCB did not retain him for the 2018 season, as a result, Rahul was back in the auction. SRH tried their best to sign Rahul and bid 10.50 crore, but the Punjab Kings signed him at 11 crore then.

5. Krishnappa Gowtham

The Sunrisers Hyderabad signed only three players at IPL Auction 2021. The team’s mentor VVS Laxman later disclosed that Hyderabad could have signed Krishnappa Gowtham, but they did not have enough budget.

“From the Indian talent pool we wanted Kedar Jadhav and then we wanted even Gowtham but unfortunately too expensive and we had a very limited budget,” VVS Laxman said after the auction.

Hence, Gowtham could have been playing for SRH in IPL 2021, but now he is a part of the CSK squad.
