Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians are the most successful team in the Indian Premier League history. The Mumbai-based franchise have performed well in the last 10 seasons of the league. Playing under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, Mumbai have dominated against the other teams.
Even when the Champions League T20 existed, Mumbai Indians ensured that the flag of the IPL teams flew high because they managed to two CLT20 titles. MI have maintained a 100% win record against five of the many teams they have played against. Here’s a list of those five franchises.
1. Mumbai Indians have never lost against Gujarat Titans
IPL 2022 champions Gujarat Titans managed to win their first-ever title in their debut season itself. However, the Ahmedabad-based franchise failed to defeat the team that finished last in the IPL 2022 points table – Mumbai. Daniel Sams starred in that win for MI. Here’s what Rohit Sharma said after the five-run win:
“It was pretty tight towards the back end. Very satisfying. It was something we were looking for. The luck had to turn at some stage. We’ll take that with both hands. We were 15-20 runs short. We started well but got stuck in the middle.”
2. Mumbai Indians never lost against Guyana
Guyana were a domestic team from West Indies’ former T20 tournament before the CPL. They met MI once in CLT20, and the Mumbai-based franchise won that contest.
3. Perth Scorchers
Big Bash League’s most successful team, Perth Scorchers faced MI once in the CLT20 as well. MI recorded a one-sided win in that contest.
4. Somerset
England teams did not participate much in the CLT20, but Somerset were one of the few counties that made it to the grand stage. They battled MI once but lost the match.
5. Trinidad and Tobago
Another domestic team from the West Indies to appear on the list is Trinidad and Tobago. They met MI twice in CLT20 matches and lost on both occasions.
