Running out a non-striker while he is out of his crease even before the bowler bowls the delivery is one of the most talked-about forms of dismissal in cricket history. Previously, there used to be a Spirit of Cricket debate even when there was an attempt from the bowler to get the wicket of the non-striker in that fashion.

However, things have changed now. The International Cricket Council has destigmatized the dismissal by making it one of the legal forms of taking the wicket. In the past though, there have been six instances when bowlers did not dislodge the bails at the non-striker’s end even when the batter was out of the crease. Here’s a list of six such cricket players.

    1. Ravichandran Ashwin, IPL 2020

In IPL 2019, Ashwin ran out Jos Buttler at the non-striker’s end. He had another chance to do it in 2020 against RCB’s Aaron Finch. However, Ashwin did not take the bails off the stumps.

In the same year, England Women’s Katherine Brunt had a chance to run out South Africa Women’s Sune Luus. However, Brunt did not do it.

    3. Krunal Pandya, IPL 2019

Indian left-arm spinner Krunal Pandya could have run out Punjab Kings’ batter Mayank Agarwal in a match between Mumbai and Punjab. Pandya refrained from doing so.

    4. Chris Gayle, ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup 2012

Almost every fan would have watched the video of Chris Gayle stopping near his stumps and mocking Eoin Morgan. It happened during the 2012 T20 WC.

    5. Amir Sohail

In a tri-series involving Australia and Pakistan, Amir Sohail gave a warning to Dean Jones. He had a chance of dismissing him but gave him a warning.
