8 Indian players who played last home Test series against England but are missing now

The Indian cricket team has become one of the best units in the sport. India has made significant progress in all three formats over the last few decades. The team has tormented its opponents while playing Test matches at home. Currently, England is touring India for a 4-Test series.

This series will play an important role in deciding the final of the ICC World Test Championship. England dominated the proceedings in Chennai on Day 1. However, many fans expect India to bounce back. India is the favorite to win this series because they have a fantastic squad.

The last time England visited India, the visitors lost by 4-0. Eight players from that squad are missing in the ongoing series. Here is the list of those eight players.

8. Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir is a former Indian opener who has become a politician now. Gambhir also offers his views on the current cricket matches regularly.

The left-handed batsman was a part of the Indian squad that played the last home series against India. It was Gambhir’s last Test series for India.

7. Karun Nair

Incidentally, the final Test of that India vs England series happened at Chepauk only. Karun Nair was the hero for the home side in that Test match.

Karun scored a triple hundred for the Indian team and powered the team to 759/7 declared. However, his performances dipped after that and he lost his place in the squad.

Once upon a time, Murali Vijay was the first-choice opener of the Indian Test team. He had a solid technique, which helped him succeed at home and outside India as well.

Vijay was the sixth highest run-scorer in the previous India vs England series. The right-handed opener aggregated 357 runs in eight innings.

5. Ravindra Jadeja

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja starred for Team India in the previous home Test series against England. Jadeja scored 224 runs with the bat in five Tests.

With his left-arm spin, Jadeja scalped 26 wickets to end the series as the second highest wicket-taker. Unfortunately, he missed the current series because of injury.

4. Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Another player who missed the current series against England because of injury is Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The right-arm pacer has struggled with injuries of late.

Kumar has recovered from his injury multiple times but he has soon got injured again. It will be interesting to see when Kumar will return to the Indian Test team.

3. Jayant Yadav

Off-spinner Jayant Yadav made his Test debut in the series against England. The Delhi-based all-rounder did a fine job in that series as he took nine wickets for the team.

Also, Yadav showed his batting skills by scoring 221 runs for the side. Of late, India has preferred Washington Sundar as the secondary off-spin bowling all-rounder in Tests.

2. Parthiv Patel

Parthiv Patel was the wicket-keeper in the squad for 3rd, 4th, and 5th Test matches. The left-handed batsman had a decent series as he aggregated 195 runs for the home team.

While Patel did a good job, he could not retain his place in the team for an extended period. The left-handed wicket-keeper batsman has retired from all formats of cricket now.

1. Amit Mishra

Veteran leg-spinner Amit Mishra was the lead leg-spin bowler for India in that Test series against England. He got to play two Test matches for the Indian team.

Mishra scalped five wickets in two Tests. However, the final Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium proved to be his last Test. He has not donned the whites for India after that game.
