IPL 2023 is underway right now, with 10 franchises competing against each other to win the championship. Because of the salaries offered in the league, quite a few cricketers have prioritized IPL over their own nation as well in the modern era.
Just a few days ago, the New Zealand cricket team completed a tour of Pakistan with its ‘B’ team because the likes of Tim Southee, Mitchell Santner, Lockie Ferguson and Trent Boult are playing in the IPL. However, there have been a few players who prioritized their nation this year and skipped some matches of IPL 2023 as well. Here’s a list of the eight names:
1. Joshua Little is missing from IPL 2023 right now
Ireland’s left-arm pace bowler Joshua Little made his debut for the Gujarat Titans this year. He has done a great job for the side, but Little is in England right now, playing for Ireland in an ICC Cricket World Cup Super League series against Bangladesh.
2. Litton Das will miss remainder of IPL 2023
Bangladesh opener Litton Das for half season only because of Bangladesh’s series against Ireland. He left KKR even before that due to some personal reasons.
3. Shakib Al Hasan skipped entire IPL 2023
Another Bangladeshi member of the KKR squad to feature on the list is Shakib Al Hasan. The all-rounder opted out of the season as Bangladesh were playing a lot of international cricket.
4. Quinton de Kock
Lucknow Super Giants opener Quinton de Kock joined the team late because of South Africa’s series against the Netherlands. Even that series was a part of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League.
5. David Miller
Another South African star present on the list is David Miller. He missed Gujarat Titans’ season opener against CSK due to a series against the Netherlands.
6. Kagiso Rabada
South African pace bowler Kagiso Rabada was unavailable at the start of the season for the Punjab Kings. He was playing for South Africa against the Netherlands.
7. Aiden Markram
Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Aiden Markram missed his team’s first match. He was playing against the Netherlands as Bhuvneshwar Kumar led the team in his absence.
8. Anrich Nortje
Delhi Capitals pace bowler Anrich Nortje was also a part of that South African squad. He joined DC after their first game against LSG.
