The IPL 2024 auction will be registered in history as one of the biggest of all time. A total of 72 players were picked among the ten IPL franchises, and approximately INR 250 crore was spent during the event. Mitchell Starc went on to become the most expensive player in IPL history.

The Kolkata Knight Riders bought him for an unbelievable price of INR 24.75 crore. Earlier, it was the Australian skipper who held that record. Sunrisers Hyderabad signed him for a price of INR 20.5 crore, which was more than Sam Curran’s INR 18.5 crore previously.

Both Starc and Cummins had huge deals, and it made headlines and everyone was talking about it. Notably, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, and Jaspirt Bumrah aren’t getting this much pay. Former South African star AB de Villiers also reckons that it was too high price.

In a Q&A session on his YouTube channel, some IPL franchises made some smart signings, but others made big purchases. He said, “Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, and other teams that do well in the IPL do well in the auction as well. They make smart buys, not emotional buys. Cummins and Starc are both incredible players, but really, for that price?

On the other hand, CSK also made some smart signings.
