The auction for the upcoming 17th edition of the Indian Premier League is scheduled to take place on December 19 in Dubai. This auction will see every ten teams get INR 5 crore extra to spend on players. A total of 1155 players have registered for the auction, which includes capped and uncapped players.

But before the auction, all the teams were asked to retain and release the players they were looking for. But some franchises even made some high-profile trades. One of those was the trade of Australian all-rounder Cameron Green from the Mumbai Indians to the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

RCB traded in Green for a whopping price of INR 17.5 crore, which did raise some eyebrows. MI needed some cash to trade in Hardik Pandya. Hence, they released Green, and RCB was up to take it. However, many former cricketers and cricket pundits had some other opinions.

Notably, RCB also released Josh Hazlewood, Wanindu Hasaranga, Harshal Patel, Wayne Parnell, David Willey, and some other players. With a purse left of just above 23 crore, RCB needs to find some bowlers for the IPL 2024.

Meanwhile, Green’s inclusion will provide the team with great batting depth, but bowling will have to be compromised if RCB doesn’t get some good bowlers with the purse left. However, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis opened up about the green trade.

In a recent chat, Du Plessis said that one area that the team lacked last season was the middle order, and Green’s inclusion will strengthen the batting order. He also said that the conditions at M. Chinnaswamy will suit Cameron Green.

The RCB skipper said, “Green was at the top of our list in terms of the type of all-rounder that we are looking at. M. Chinnaswamy. He is someone who can hit the ball hard and, from a bowling perspective, can get that extra bounce in those conditions.”

The all-rounder made his IPL debut in 2023. He played 16 games for MI and scored 452 runs at an average of 50.22 and a strike rate of 160.28. Green also scored one hundred and two half-centuries. With the ball, he took six wickets.
