The last few months have shown why exactly Team India is one of the best cricket teams on the planet. Despite many senior players not being there, the bench stood up and helped the unit win many games. With this phase, many new players have arrived at the scene, and they will be in the scheme of things for a few years to come.

However, there is a long list of players who are waiting to make their debut. With the current competition for places, it is possible that these cricketers may have to wait for a very long time to make their debuts. In this article, we talk about five such cricketers.

1. Devdutt Padikkal

Devdutt Padikkal has set the scene on fire in recent years. After topping the run charts of the limited-overs domestic competitions last season, Devdutt had a terrific IPL, where he top-scored for RCB. In the recent Vijay Hazare Trophy too, the Bengaluru lad was in great touch. However, with players like Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw, Mayank Agarwal and Ishan Kishan ahead of him in the pecking order for the opening slot, DP’s time could arrive late. More so, even Virat Kohli has become a contender for the opener slot in T20Is now.

2. Kartik Tyagi

Kartik Tyagi is one of the rising young pacers in the country. Although he impressed in IPL and was a net bowler for the team in Australia, a debut could be far away for the player. With the likes of Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Shardul Thakur and Navdeep Saini in the frame, the rookie quick will have too much competition to overcome. That said, if he has a terrific IPL, there could be plenty of scope for an entry.

3. Ravi Bishnoi

If you look at it, Team India does not have one premier spinner in the limited-overs setup now. While Yuzvendra Chahal does belong to the prime, even he is leaking a lot of runs these days. The same is the case with Kuldeep Yadav. Hence, Rahul Chahar is in the side now. There is also the spin options that come with the all-rounders like Krunal Pandya, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar. Amidst all of this, Ravi Bishnoi might find it hard to play for India at the earliest.

4. Rahul Tewatia

Although he was in the T20 team, due to fitness issues, Rahul Tewatia did not play in the XI. It has to be noted that Tewatia’s inclusion came on the back of an impressive IPL show, and since then, he has not been extra-ordinary in domestic events. Hence, for the Rajasthan Royals cricketer to earn a spot once more, he has to be at his best in the IPL. If that happens too, the lights are not bright, at the moment, for the player. There is plenty of competition in the all-rounder’s category, with guys like Krunal Pandya also coming back to the picture. Hence, Tewatia might have to wait longer for his moment.

5. Varun CV

Twice, Varun CV was selected to the Indian Team but had to miss out due to fitness problems. This might have created an image of the player in the circles. Also, with the T20 WC nearing, the management might not want to try an injury-prone cricketer. There is also the problem of competition for the Tamil Nadu man. Hence, he could have to endure a long waiting time to don the blue jersey.
