It has been almost three years since MS Dhoni played an international match but still he continues to be the best finisher in the world in the greatest T20 tournament on earth. Playing for the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2022, Dhoni helped the Chennai-based franchise pull off another thrilling win, this time against arch-rivals Mumbai Indians.
In a battle that had lots of ups and downs at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, the Chennai Super Kings beat the Mumbai Indians by three wickets. MI batted first and managed a 155-run total despite both Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan losing their wickets for a duck. Youngsters Tilak Verma and Hrithik Shokeen impressed the fans with their batting performances.
Mukesh Choudhary was the pick of the bowlers for the Chennai Super Kings with a three-wicket haul. He dismissed both Kishan and Sharma in the first over of the match. Chasing 156 runs to record their second win of the season, CSK lost Ruturaj Gaikwad on the first ball of the innings.
Daniel Sams ensured that MI were right in the match as he took four wickets. However, his efforts went in vain as MS Dhoni did the improbable and scored 16 runs off the last four balls to help CSK win the game. Speaking after the defeat against CSK, MI captain Rohit said:
“In the end, it was a great fight from us. We were right in the game. After batting not so well, the bowlers kept us in the game all through. In the end, we know how calming MS Dhoni can be and he took them home. It’s hard to put a finger on it. It’s just that we’re not applying ourselves.”
