Shreyas Iyer is one of the top batters in Indian cricket right now. He got an opportunity to bat at number three in the recently-concluded T20I series against the Sri Lankan cricket team. The right-handed batter grabbed the opportunity with both hands and won the Man of the Series award for scoring 204 runs.

Iyer will now look forward to leading the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League and also performing well for the Indian cricket team in the upcoming ICC World Test Championship series against the Sri Lankan cricket team. India will host Sri Lanka for two Tests in Mohali and Bengaluru this month.

Iyer started his Test career against the New Zealand cricket team late last year and achieved a rare feat in cricket history by scoring a century and a half-century on Test debut. However, the right-handed batter did not receive a spot in the Indian playing XI for the ICC World Test Championship series against the South African cricket team.

Even when Virat Kohli missed a match because of an injury, Iyer was not selected in the playing XI, leaving many fans confused.

Whatever I was eating, it was coming out: Shreyas Iyer

Although Shreyas has achieved much success on the field this year, one must note that he had a stomach infection in South Africa and then he tested positive for COVID-19 in India. Commenting on his health issues in South Africa, Iyer said in an interview with Times of India:

“I had a very bad stomach infection at the start of the year when we were in South Africa. I lost seven kilos there. Basically, whatever I was eating, it was coming out. It was one of the worst phases of my life.”

Iyer will be keen to maintain his health now and play as many matches as possible in the year 2022.
