“I want Rishabh in”- Michael Vaughan explains why India should pick Rishabh Pant over Dinesh Karthik in T20 World Cup

The selection headache for the BCCI selection committee will increase as the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 approaches. The team management will have to make some harsh calls in the wicket-keeping department because playing three wicket-keepers in the playing XI may not be an ideal scenario for the Indian cricket team. Rishabh Pant, Dinesh Karthik and KL Rahul are the top three wicket-keeper batters in the nation right now.

Even Ishan Kishan is competing in the race for a place in the Indian cricket team’s ICC T20 World Cup 2022 playing XI. Rahul has not played much T20I cricket this year because of injuries, while Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik have got many opportunities.

Some fans think that Kishan may find a place in the squad as a backup opener, but only out of Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik will make it. Both players have similar roles. They play in the middle-order for the team. According to former England captain Michael Vaughan, Pant should get a nod. Here’s what he said on Cricbuzz:

“I am just looking at how India would juggle all these players into the final XI for the World Cup. KL Rahul will come back in. Rishabh Pant, DK, one of them will have to keep. I don’t think both of them will play. I want Rishabh in because he’s left-handed.”

India may find a way to have both Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik in the squad

Rishabh Pant and Karthik are two players who can win matches single-handedly on their day. But as mentioned ahead, the Indian cricket team can only fit one of them in the playing XI when KL Rahul returns. Perhaps, India could keep Pant as a back-up opener in the squad instead of Ishan Kishan.

In the recently concluded T20I series between the Indian cricket team and the England cricket team, captain Rohit Sharma promoted Pant to the opener’s position.
