Former Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Shane Watson recently revealed his first reaction after reading the news that the Chennai-based franchise changed their captain for IPL 2022. Just two days before the start of the new season, CSK issued a press release, informing the fans that the regular captain MS Dhoni has decided to hand over the team’s reins to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

Watson was a part of the CSK squad that won the IPL trophy in 2018 under Dhoni’s captaincy. He also played for the team in the 2019 and 2020 seasons. Commenting on the way he felt after seeing the change in captaincy, Watson admitted that he was shocked.

Speaking on The Grade Cricketer Podcast, Watson was quoted as saying as follows:

When I had initially heard that Jadeja was going to take over, I was blown away! Because everyone knows the kind of respect and aura that MS Dhoni has on the field, it was always going to be difficult for Jadeja no matter what.

I do feel a bit sorry for Ravindra Jadeja: Shane Watson comments on CSK changing their captain midway during IPL 2022

On the same show, Shane Watson spoke about the way the Chennai Super Kings had another captaincy change as Ravindra Jadeja stepped down and handed over the reins of the team back to MS Dhoni.

“In the end I do feel a little bit sorry for Jadeja, because he is a great cricketer and is only getting better,” said Watson.

It will be interesting to see how the Chennai Super Kings perform in their last four league matches of IPL 2022. They are virtually out of the race to the playoffs. MS Dhoni’s team need to win all of their next four matches and hope that certain results go their way to ensure that they have a chance of defending their trophy.
