Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has opined that if he was the selector of the Indian cricket team then he would have picked Sunrisers Hyderabad’s fast bowler Umran Malik in the squad for the tour of Australia. The Indian cricket team is set to travel to Australia later this year to participate in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

The conditions and pitches in Australia will assist the fast bowlers. Since Umran Malik is one of the few bowlers who can clock 150 kmph on the speedometer with consistency, Harbhajan Singh wants him in the Indian squad soon. Malik has raw pace, but his line and length are not accurate right now, which is why some fans feel he is not yet ready to represent the Indian cricket team.

However, Harbhajan wants him in the Indian squad when they play in Australia. He wants Malik to share the fast-bowling attack’s responsibilities with Jasprit Bumrah. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of Dream Set Go event, Singh said:

“I don’t know if he will be selected or not but if I was part of the selection committee, I would have given him a go ahead. Umran Malik should partner Jasprit Bumrah when India play in Australia.”

Name a pacer bowling at over 150 and not playing for the country: Harbhajan Singh

Further explaining why Umran Malik should be a part of the Indian cricket team, Singh added:

“He is my favourite. I want to see him in the Indian team. What a bowler he is. Name a pacer bowling at over 150 and not playing for the country.”

Malik has done well in IPL 2022, but he is yet to realize his full potential. With Dale Steyn being the fast-bowling coach of the Sunrisers Hyderabad team, one can expect improvement in the performance of Malik soon. It will be interesting to see if he plays for India in Australia.
