MS Dhoni is considered one of the best captains in cricket history owing to his excellent record in all three formats. He won the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup in 2007. A few years later, he took the Indian team to the number one position on the ICC Test Rankings. In 2011, he became the first captain to win a World Cup on home soil.

Two years later, he completed a unique treble by winning the ICC Champions Trophy in England. Besides, he also has three IPL trophies to his name, and he also holds countless wicket-keeping records as well. Unfortunately, MS Dhoni will no longer don the blue jersey at the international level.

The Indian team will play their first series after Dhoni’s retirement versus the mighty Aussies. This listicle features those five things which only MS Dhoni could do against Australia.

1.Score 220+ runs as a wicket-keeper in a single Test inning

Only two wicket-keeper batsmen can boast of scoring a double hundred against Australia in Test cricket. The first player to accomplish this feat was Pakistan’s Taslim Arif, who scored 210 runs versus the Aussies at Faisalabad in 1980.

In 2013, MS Dhoni broke his record by scoring 224 runs against Australia, smacking 24 fours and six sixes. He spent 365 minutes in the middle and played 265 balls in his once in a lifetime inning.

2.Only captain to defeat Ricky Ponting’s Australia in a World Cup knockout match

As mentioned ahead, MS Dhoni guided the Indian cricket team to their second World Cup win in 2011. The wicket-keeper batsman achieved a massive feat when he ended Australia’s dominance at the global event.

The Aussies had won the 1999,2003, and 2007 World Cups. Under Ricky Ponting’s leadership, they tormented the other nations in 2003 and 2007. However, in 2011, the Aussies could not beat India even though their captain scored a hundred in the quarterfinal match.

3.Only Indian to win a Man of the Series award in a bilateral ODI series against Australia in Australia

Australia have a phenomenal record at home. However, in 2018-19, the Indian cricket team absolutely owned them by winning the Test series and the ODI series.

MS Dhoni became the oldest Indian to win the Man of the Series award in that series as he helped India win their first ever bilateral ODI series in Australia. With that, he also became the only Indian win to win a Man of the Series award in a bilateral ODI series Down Under.

4.Only Indian with 70+ dismissals in Test matches against Australia

Only two wicket-keepers have been able to execute over 70 dismissals in India vs Australia Test matches. Adam Gilchrist from Australia has 75 dismissals in 36 Test innings versus India.

On the other side, MS Dhoni has executed 71 dismissals in 35 Test innings versus the Aussies. No other Indian wicket-keeper has also been able to touch the 50 mark in this aspect.

5.Only captain to whitewash Australia in Australia in a 3-match T20I series

T20Is have been an area of concern for the Aussies. They have not won a single T20 World Cup to date, while a few players have also neglected playing regularly in this format.

However, only one team has been able to whitewash them in their home conditions while playing a 3-match T20I series. MS Dhoni’s Indian team achieved this record before the ICC T20 World Cup 2016.
