Indian Premier League is a tournament wherein there is a lot of scope for dynamics to be involved. There are around 14 games for each team, and with close to 25 players in every squad, anything can happen over a season.

However, from a player’s perspective, the most frustrating aspect could be to not find game time. This can be infuriating when you know you are good, and you are in a situation where a good season is required to lift your career. Hence, there could be situations where players would wish that they get released by their current teams.

In the current IPL squads too, we see that there could a few players who would be going through the same feeling. We discuss about them in this article.

1. Ajinkya Rahane

The vice-captain of the Indian Test Team, Ajinkya Rahane would be cursing himself for accepting a move to Delhi Capitals. Although he reached the final, on a personal note, it wasn’t a memorable campaign for the Mumbai cricketer. While being out of form may have been acceptable for him, not getting sufficient chances to bring himself to touch might have not gone well with the player. Had he been in a team like CSK or SRH, chances would have come in plenty, and hence, Ajinkya might want to leave DC before IPL 2021. For that, the franchise must release him to the auctions.

2. Karun Nair

Almost everything Karun Nair is touching now is going against him. His career with the Indian Team seems over at the moment. However, considering his age, he still has a chance to make a comeback. IPL is a good route, but at KXIP, he is not getting the chances he wants. Yes, he has been bad in those he got, but for him, to return to form, a run of games is needed. Maybe, he wasn’t given that because of the abundance of domestic batting talent at KXIP. So, if he gets released, Karun can find what he wants at an alternate franchise.

3. Pawan Negi

Pawan Negi is actually a decent cricketer in the T20 format. He can offer a few overs of spin and can slog his bat lower down the order. Pawan is also good in the field. Despite this, the Delhi man was not able to get his due at RCB in IPL 2020. He has severe competition in the squad, and hence, finding a different team could be the best option. RCB must release him for that to happen, and Negi could be praying for the same.

4. K Khaleel Ahmed

After IPL 2020, K Khaleel Ahmed might just want to go out of Sunrisers Hyderabad. T Natarajan was fantastic for the men in orange, and with the player having made his India debut as well, SRH would have Nattu in the core group of the squad. Khaleel is also a left-arm pacer, and that could limit his chances in the upcoming campaigns. At teams like KXIP and KKR, a left-arm pacer would be welcome, and Khaleel would rather operate at such franchises. Hence, he could be wishing to find himself on SRH’s release list before next season.

5. Mayank Markhande

Just like Khaleel, Mayank Markhande also faces competition in his current franchise. At least Khaleel got a few games in IPL 2020, but Mayank could not achieve even that. While Shreyas Gopal is certain to continue as the team’s premier spinner, Rahul Tewatia will take up the other slot. This could leave Mayank without an opportunity even in the next season. It needs to be noted that the Punjab player is an India cricketer while the other two are yet to make their international debuts. This might explain the frustration that the player might be feeling.

6. David Miller

Unless RR takes the daring decision of releasing their captain Steve Smith, there is no way David Miller can play in IPL next season. Miller is in the process of rediscovering his touch in IPL, and he needs game-time to help make that happen. At RR, there are four mighty overseas players, and therefore, chances would be low. However, there could be an opening at a different team. Hence, Miller would want to get released before next season.
