In what turned out to be the most significant victory of IPL 2024, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured a commanding win over Delhi Capitals (DC) by a staggering margin of 106 runs. This defeat marked the third loss for Rishabh Pant’s squad, leaving them languishing in the lower half of the table.

The match was characterized by a lackluster display from Delhi Capitals, both with the bat and the ball, as they struggled to assert themselves against KKR’s dominance. Sunil Narine’s blistering 85 runs off just 39 deliveries set the tone for KKR’s formidable batting performance, leaving the Delhi bowlers under constant pressure.

Making his debut, Angkrish Raghuvanshi impressed many with a half-century contribution, while Andre Russell (41) and Rinku Singh (26) bolstered KKR’s total to 272 runs with their impactful performances.

Delhi Capitals faced early setbacks in their innings, with Vaibhav Arora and Mitchell Starc wreaking havoc by claiming four quick wickets for KKR. Despite commendable efforts from Rishabh Pant (55) and Tristan Stubbs (54), Delhi Capitals could only muster a total of 166 runs before being bowled out.

Reflecting on the match, Rishabh Pant conceded that his team was disjointed and could have performed better, particularly with the ball. He shared his message to the team during the innings break, emphasizing their aggressive approach in pursuit of the target.

Regarding the lackluster DRS moments, Rishabh Pant attributed the confusion to technical issues with the screen and the surrounding noise at the venue. Despite the challenges, he emphasized the importance of adapting and maintaining composure in such situations.

“It was quite loud (the venue) and couldn’t see the timer on the screen (talking about the non-DRS moments) and there was some issue with the screen as well, there are some things you can control and some you cannot control, you just need to go with the flow.”
