When cricket enthusiasts hear the name Rinku Singh, their minds invariably recall the remarkable moments of his prowess on the field. One such memory is of him launching an impressive sequence of five consecutive sixes during the IPL 2023 match against Gujarat Titans.
Representing the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rinku achieved the extraordinary when he faced off against Yash Dayal in the final over of the game when KKR needed 28 runs in the final over.
In another notable instance, Rinku replicated his remarkable feat, this time during a Super Over showdown, securing victory for his team, Meerut Mavericks in the inaugural Uttar Pradesh T20 (UPT20) League.
In a gripping situation with Meerut requiring 17 runs from the super over, Rinku displayed his prowess by smashing a trio of sixes, emerging as the match-winning hero. He confronted the challenge posed by left-arm spinner Shiva Singh, showcasing his mettle in the clutch moments.
Although the first delivery did not yield a run, Rinku’s exceptional performance in the subsequent three deliveries ensured UP’s triumphant journey across the finish line.
In the Super over, Rinku skillfully sent the second delivery soaring over the long-off boundary for a six. Notably, Rinku, who has since made his mark on the international stage by debuting for India, continued his impressive display.
He followed up with yet another powerful shot, this time clearing the deep mid-wicket boundary with another maximum. And to seal the victory, Rinku concluded the match with yet another six, elegantly lofted over the long-off region.
Previously, the scores of the two teams were evenly matched at 181 runs apiece after completing 20 overs each. Interestingly, during the initial 20-over face-off, Rinku’s performance had not stood out, as he managed to accumulate just 15 runs off 22 deliveries after he came to bat really early in the match after his team lost 2 early wickets.
Despite this, the Meerut franchise made the strategic decision to nominate him for the Super Over, a choice that proved to be well-founded.
Rinku’s journey has seen him not only make his debut for the Indian national team in the T20I format but also secure a spot in the lineup for the upcoming Asian Games, scheduled for later this month.
