Nepal cricket team got knocked out of the Asia Cup 2023 after suffering their 2nd straight defeat in the tournament. Nepal lost to the Indian cricket team yesterday and thus they won’t make it to the Super Four stage of the tournament.

In this all important match between the Indian cricket team and the Nepal cricket team in the Asia Cup 2023, Nepal scored 230 runs in 48.2 overs before they were all out. Due to interruption in the game because of rain, Team India had to chase a revised target of 145 runs in 23 overs, which the Indian team achieved in 20.1 overs.

After being asked to bat first, Nepal’s opening duo of Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh was given number of lifeline thanks of some drop catches early on in the match.

As a result, the opening duo added a partnership of 65 runs for the first wicket before Kushal Bhurtel was dismissed after scoring 38 runs in 25 balls. But it was the other opener Aasif Sheikh who was the top scorer for Nepal in the match.

The 22-years-old Nepal’s wicketkeeper batter scored 58 runs in total 97 balls he faced before he was eventually dismissed by Mohammed Siraj. However, after Sheikh’s brilliant inning last night, an old video of his going viral in social media.

Many cricket fans would remember Aasif Sheikh for his brilliant ‘Spirit of Cricket’ action in 2022 during a T20I match between Nepal and Ireland. When Nepal and Ireland were in Oman Quadrangular T20 series in Oman, Aasif Sheikh decided to not run out a Ireland player, keeping the spirit of cricket fair.

In the 3rd ball of the 18th over in that match, Ireland’s Mark Adair failed to connect a big shot and then decided to take a single. However, Andy McBrine on the other side, collided with the Nepal bowler and got down on the ground. There, Aasif Sheikh had the perfect opportunity to run out the Irish batter, but he rather collected the ball and decided to not take a bails off and passed the ball to other fielder.

For his brilliant gesture, cricket fans around the world commanded the Nepali wicketkeeper batter. As a result, Aasif Sheikh also won the Spirit of Cricket award in 2022 in the ICC Awards show.

Meanwhile, chasing a revised target of 145 runs, Indian opening batters Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill both scored their respective 50s and took the team home without losing any wicket. Rohit Sharma scored 71 runs while Shubman Gill scored 67 runs.
