The biggest festival of Indian sports, the Indian Premier League (IPL) is just around the corner with its 2024 season commencing from the 22nd of the March with the opening match of the tournament to be played between two Southern teams as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will host Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

The Indian Premier League 2023 was a grand success for many reasons, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) winning their 5th title to equal Mumbai Indians as the most successful team in the tournament. Another reason would be the Impact Player rule, that allows any team to rather name 12 players on the team sheet rather than the conventional 11 player and teams can substitute a player from its playing XI anytime they want, like in football.

This gave teams the flexibility to start with an additional batter while batting first and then bring in a bowler as substitute while bowling in the 2nd inning, and the vice-versa where bowling first team substitute a batter in their batting inning to add to their batting strength.

And much like that, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 will be seeing some new rules coming into the play once again.

One of the new rules that Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) brought in ahead of the new season is giving hike in salary to the uncapped players who earn a India captain between two seasons. The regulation states that if an uncapped player gets an India cap between two IPL seasons, then he will receive a hike in salary that will take him to 50 Lakh salary as long as the player has atleast 1 cap.

Further, if an uncapped player earns 5-9 India caps between two IPL season, then the players salary will receive a hike to 75 Lakh and then 1 Crore if the player receive his 10th cap and further.

Another change in regulation for IPL 2024 is the introduction of the two bouncers per over rule. T20 cricket has always been a batters game and the BCCI in a move make it a fair game between bat and ball, has introduced a two bouncers per over rule, which was previously restricted to just 1 bouncer per over like in International cricket. The following regulation was implemented in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023-2024 season, India’s domestic T20 tournament.
