RCB Director of Cricket explains why Royal Challengers Bangalore signed Cameron Green for hefty 17.50 Crore from Mumbai Indians

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) made a notable acquisition on the IPL 2024 retention deadline day by securing Australian all-rounder Cameron Green in a trade from Mumbai Indians. Green, who had a substantial bid of INR 17.50 crore in the previous season with Mumbai Indians, is set to enhance RCB’s lineup.

Mo Bobat, RCB’s Director of Cricket, expressed his excitement about Green’s addition to the team. Speaking to RCB Bold Diaries, Bobat emphasized Green’s role as a middle-order power hitter, praising his batting prowess against both pace and spin, along with his international experience in various formats. Bobat anticipates that Green will thrive at RCB’s home ground, the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

“He is the ideal fit for us in that middle-order power role. He is a high-quality, skillful and powerful batsman. He has got the game against both pace and spin. He has got international experience across formats and I am sure he will enjoy batting at the Chinnaswamy,” Bobat remarked.

Highlighting Green’s impressive performance in IPL 2023, where he amassed 452 runs in 16 matches at an average of 50.22 and a strike rate of 160.28, Bobat praised his century and two half-centuries, showcasing his batting capabilities. Green also contributed with the ball, taking 6 wickets, and displayed excellence in the field with 5 catches.

Bobat commended Green’s bowling skills, emphasizing his pace and bounce as valuable assets, particularly in home conditions. He also lauded Green’s exceptional fielding, noting his impressive catches while fielding at gully.

The trade, following a significant bidding war between Mumbai Indians and RCB in the previous auction, saw Mumbai Indians approach multiple teams before finalizing the deal with Royal Challengers Bangalore.
