Scotland Cricket Team Players to Watch Out for in T20 World Cup 2021

The countdown for the T20 World Cup 2021 season is almost over as about only 24 hours are remaining before the first bowl in bowled when Oman take on Papua New Guinea on the 17th of October, in the 1st round match.

The first round of the T20 World Cup will feature the last 2 teams from ICC’s top 10 T20 World Ranking and 6 other member associate teams, who qualified through the T20 World Cup Qualifier played in 2019.

And one of the 6 member associate team that we are going to cover is the Scotland mens cricket team.

Scotland became the ICC’s member associate in 1994 and has played various formats of World Cup, the ICC Cricket World Cup in 1999, 2007 and in 2015, and T20 World Cup in three occasions in 2007, 2009 and 2016.

Scotland as well as other member associates of the ICC were given full T20 International (T20I) status in 2018, thus all the T20 matches played by the teams from 2019 are full T20I matches.

Scotland players to watch out for T20 World Cup 2021

Today, as Scotland is set to take part in the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup, we take a look at the Scotland players to watch out for during the tournament.

1. Kyle Coetzer

The 37-year-old right-handed batsman Kyle Coetzer, who will be captaining the Scotland team in the T20 World Cup, is one of the key player for Scotland.

The Scottish skipper has proved himself in the T20I format. He has played 63 T20I matches from his debut in 2008 and has scored 1411 runs with a strike rate of 120.4.

2. Richie Berrington

Richie Berrington, the 34-year-old will also have to play a massive role for the Scotland cricket team in their T20 World Cup. He would want to use his experience to the fullest.

Richie Berrington has played 66 T20I matches in which he has scored 1517 runs with a strike rate of 128.1. His bowling record is also decent as he has managed to pick up 27 wickets in his T20I career.

3. Josh Davey

Left-arm medium fast bowler Josh Davey, who has the experience of playing in the English County Cricket Championship for Somerset, will be the lead bowler for Scotland in the T20 World Cup.

Josh Davey has so far played 23 T20I matches for Scotland, in which he has picked up 25 wickets. In all of T20 competition, Josh has played 59 matches and has managed 66 wickets.

4. George Munsey

George Munsey must be a well recognised name some cricket fans from the 2014-2015. The 28-year-old left hand batsman will be an important member of the Scotland team in the T20 World Cup.

George Munsey was declared the player to watch out for by the ICC before the T20 World Cup qualifier in 2019, and indeed he was as he ended the campaign as the highest run scorer for the team. Munsey has played 43 T20I matches and has scored 1118 runs with more than 150 strike rate.

5. Mark Watt

25-year-old leg-spin bowler Mark Watt is also someone that you must keep your eyes on. He could turn out very effective in some conditions in UAE and in Oman.

Watt has thus far played 39 T20I matches for Scotland and has picked up 49 wickets. The 25-year-old could be one of the surprise package from Scotland.

Scotland qualified for the T20 World Cup 2021 through the qualifiers that was held in 2019. They have been placed in Group A in 1st round with Bangladesh, Oman, Papua New Guinea. Top 2 will go through to the Super 12. Scotland will begin their campaign on the opening day on 17th October against Bangladesh.
