It is through IPL that we discerned talents like Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and the unfathomable potential of India’s current skipper, Virat Kohli. The fray still continues to promise shining stars in the offing to arrive that includes the likes of Shubhman Gil, Kamlesh Nagarkoti and many other exciting prospects who have been practising extremely hard to continue working on their skillsets.

Barring these two categories of players, there is one more clique of promising cricketers who showed unparalleled brilliance for a few seasons in IPL but couldn’t make the final cut to international glory nor could they sustain themselves in the long run. We will look at six players who had an extremely bright start in the Indian Premier League but faded away shortly due to unexpected mediocrity.

6. Saurabh Tiwary

Known for his blistering knocks in the colours of Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2010, Saurabh Tiwary was first noticed for a similar hairstyle sported by Dhoni. He registered 419 runs at a strike rate of 135 which featured some colossal hits.

Unfortunately, his shift to Royal Challengers Bangalore backfired and the burly southpaw failed to make another significant breakthrough in the remaining of his career. He was also vested with national onus only for the lad to make things worse for himself.

5. Paul Valthaty

His exciting start to IPL raised the ambitions of the Indian selectors in getting this young lad roped in national colours after he hammered 463 runs from 14 matches in his debut season, propelling Rajasthan to their maiden championship. Much to his woe, his numbers drastically reduced to a peripheral 30 from 6 matches in the following season, post which Valthaty was sidelined for the rest of the season. In the following season, he got an opportunity to play a single match and that was the last we have seen of this exciting young man.
