Fans were surprised to see Dhoni step down as the Chennai Super Kings captain just two days before the first match of IPL 2022. CSK will play this Saturday against the Kolkata Knight Riders, and it was earlier today that Dhoni informed the team management about the decision.

In a chat with Meha Bharadwaj, Kasi Viswanath reflected on Dhoni’s decision and said:

“Whatever decision MS Dhoni takes is in the best interest of CSK. There are some reasons probably why he wanted to do it today, we accept his decision.”

“He felt it is the right time to hand over captaincy to Jaddu [Jadeja]. He feels Jaddu is also in prime form of his career and it is the ideal time for him lead CSK,” Kasi mentioned during an interview with ESPNCricinfo.

MS Dhoni will play under someone else for the first time in an IPL match in CSK colors

MS Dhoni has played one season in the Indian Premier League under someone. Ajinkya Rahane and Steve Smith captained the Rising Pune Supergiant squad featuring Dhoni in the 2017 edition of the Indian Premier League. Whereas in Champions League T20, Dhoni played one game under the captaincy of Suresh Raina.

It will be interesting to see how Dhoni plays for the Chennai Super Kings under Ravindra Jadeja. It will be a little different to see Jadeja walking out for the toss with Shreyas Iyer on March 26 when the Chennai Super Kings battle the Kolkata Knight Riders. The match will start at 7:30 PM IST at the Wankhede Stadium.
