Mumbai Indians‘ newest player Kumar Kartikeya Singh has had a memorable IPL 2022 season thus far. Even though the Mumbai Indians are no longer alive in the race to the playoffs, they will take a few positives from this season, and one of them is the good performance of Kartikeya.

He is a left-arm wrist-spin bowler who has played four matches so far and picked up five wickets for the Mumbai Indians team. Kartikeya made his debut against the inaugural champions Rajasthan Royals. Before that, the Mumbai Indians had suffered eight defeats on a trot. Singh made an impact on the match by bowling an economical spell of 1/19 in four overs.

His first IPL wicket was Sanju Samson. While he went wicketless in the match against the Gujarat Titans, Kartikeya bagged the important wickets of Venkatesh Iyer and Ajinkya Rahane in the battle against the Kolkata Knight Riders. He registered his best IPL figures of 2/22 against the Chennai Super Kings last year, where he picked up the wickets of Dwayne Bravo and Simarjeet Singh.

“I told my father that I was going to play this match. He announced this in his entire battalion. They installed a projector. My dad watched the match on the projector. When I took my first wicket, everyone stood and clapped for him, and hugged him. When he shared that video with me after the match, that was an unparalleled feeling for me,” said Kartikeya.

Looking at his good performance in IPL 2022, it should not be a surprise if Mumbai Indians retain Kartikeya for the next season.
