The former Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Akhtar is one of the deadliest pacers ever to play the game of cricket. Famously known as ‘Rawalpindi Express’, he was the first pacer to clock 100 miles per hour. He achieved this feat not once but twice, which is a big thing for any bowler.

Talking about his cricketing career, the speedster represented Pakistan in 46 Tests, 163 ODIs and 15 T20Is. In the process, he managed to pick up 544 wickets in the purest format of the game. While he grabbed 394 wickets in 50-over game, he had a blasting start to his T20I career as he clinched 21 scalps.

Akhtar recently underwent a partial knee replacement in a hospital in Melbourne, Australia. He then uploaded a video of himself on Instagram providing update on his surgery. In the video, the speedster was quite emotional and informed the fans that his surgery went successful. However, he was seen in a great pain and asked for good wishes for a speedy recovery.

The 46-year-old also revealed that he could have gone on to play for another four to five years. However, that would have resulted in coming down to wheelchair. As a result, he decided not to prolong his cricketing career and retired from the job he loved the most.

“I could have played for another four to five years. But I was aware that if I did, I would become wheelchair-bound. That’s the reason why I retired from cricket,” Shoaib Akhtar said.
