Cricket is a professional game, and we have seen instances of a few players postponing their marriage or skipping the birth of their child to continue playing for the country. That said, it is also absolutely fine if they give preference to their family ahead of their job. In this article, we take a look at two cricketers who actually got married during a cricket game.

Although in recent times, even if it is a Saturday or a Sunday, a cricket match continues to take place, in the past, there was a concept called a ‘rest day’. It sometimes used to come in between a Test match. Hence, a few players made use of this day to do some of their personal tasks, although it still was a rare occurrence.

1) Andre Nel

Andre Nel is one of the cricketers who got married during a cricket game. In 2004, Nel was not expecting himself to be in a Test match. This is because South Africa had already won the series against West Indies. Hence, Nel had planned his marriage on the second day of the game. However, he played the match and hence, stumps were called early on Day 2 for Nel to attend his marriage. He took a chopper to the church, got married and came back the next day to the game. The right-arm pacer also took the wicket of Brian Lara twice on the next day of his wedding.

2) Clyde Butts

Clyde Butts is a West Indian off-spinner who played 7 Tests for the country. On the rest day of his Test debut in 1985, Butts got married, and hence, he joined this list. To impress as a spinner in a team that had the world’s best bowlers is a hard task. Butts could not pick a lot of wickets and hence, was soon dropped. In 87 FC games, he collected a total of 348 scalps.
