Jammu and Kashmir and Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad’s young pace bowler Umran Malik has been picked for the India ‘A’ team for the upcoming South Africa tour. Umran Malik’s father got emotional after knowing that and wished his son will perform well.
Umran Malik shot to attention during the Indian Premier League 2021 UAE phase after he was selected by the Sunrisers Hyderabad as a short-term replacement for the injured T Natarajan.
Umran Malik’s IPL 2021 Performance
Umran Malik surprised the world of cricket by clocking a ball at 150 KMPH in just his debut match in the Indian Premier League, playing against Kolkata Knight Riders. In the 2nd match, the bowler went on to bowl the fastest delivery in IPL 2021 at that time, bowling at 153 KMPH against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, in that very same over, bowled 4 consecutive balls at over 150 KMPH, and that is some shear pace.
Umran continued his stunning form in the currently ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the domestic Indian T20 tournament, where he picked up 6 wickets in 4 matches, as a result of which the pacer has been included in India A squad for the upcoming South Africa series later this month.
Umran Malik’s father Abdul Rashid Malik, who works as a fruit vendor, was very emotional hearing the news that his son has been called up to the India A squad and stated that Umran will make the country proud.

Playing for India A gives youngsters an opportunity to prove themselves and make a mark for the Indian senior team call-up. Many a players have got called-up to the Indian senior team after playing for the India A squad, the likes of Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and many more. And the new Indian cricket team Head Coach Rahul Dravid might wanna keep an eye on the young lad’s progress.
India A South Africa Tour
India A team play the South Africa A team later this month from the 26th November, before the Indian senior team visits in December. The series will consists of 3 unofficial 4 day matches beginning from the 26th November till the 13th of December.
The BCCI has already announced the India A squad that will participate in the series. RCB’s opening batsman Devdutt Paddikal, along with Abhimanyu Easwaran, Prithvi Shaw and Navdeep Saini have been included in the squad.
