Afghanistan’s slow left-arm chinaman bowler, Noor Ahmad used a trick from Ravichandran Ashwin’s bag to mankad Pakistani opener, Mohammed Huraira in the quarterfinal match of the U-19 World Cup 2020. As the fans might know that the 2020 U-19 Cricket World Cup is underway in South Africa currently. Afghanistan U-19s had surprised everyone with their performance in the group stage as they topped the group which also consisted the home team, South Africa U-19s.
Pakistan U-19s also impressed with their performance in the first round as they remained unbeaten and secured the second position just behind Bangladesh U-19s. Looking at the intense rivalry between Pakistan and Afghanistan, the quarterfinal match between the Asian sides was expected to be a nail biting encounter.
Afghanistan U-19s batted first in that match but their batsmen crumbled under the pressure of the huge quarterfinal match. Only skipper Farhan Zakhil played a decent innings at the top as he contributed 40 runs to the team total. Abdul Rahman scored 30 runs in the lower order but apart from them, nobody could trouble the Pakistani bowlers.
Mohammad Amir Khan was the pick of the bowlers for the boys in green as he scalped 3 wickets in 10 overs while giving away 58 runs. Fahad Munir also stole the show with his 2 wickets.
Chasing a modest target of 190 runs to setup a semifinal match against India, Pakistan got off to a solid start as both the openers played a terrific innings. Mohammed Huraira scored a fifty as he simplified Pakistan U-19s’ run chase. He took the total to 127 runs in 27.3 overs. He was on the non-striker’s end on the 27.4th ball when Noor Ahmad was bowling the over.
Never in the wildest of his dreams would Mohammed have thought that Ahmad would dislodge the bails when he would leave the popping crease. He lost his wicket mankaded and the video has gone viral on the internet.
