The Sri Lankan cricket team received an invitation to bowl first from the new Indian captain Rohit Sharma on the first day of the Mohali Test. The opening batters of India, Mayank Agarwal and Rohit Sharma, dominated the Sri Lankan bowlers at the beginning and scored 52 runs off just 9.5 overs for the first wicket. Both Sharma and Agarwal lost their wickets after playing aggressive cricket.

After that the duo of Hanuma Vihari and Virat Kohli added 90 runs for the third wicket and took the score to 170. While Vihari completed his maiden Test half-ton on home soil, Kohli was dismissed on 45 by Lasith Embuldeniya.

It was the Rishabh Pant show after that as the left-handed batter blasted a 97-ball 96, hitting nine fours and four sixes. Here’s what Hanuma Vihari said about Rishabh after the end of the day’s play:

“Rishabh is an extra-ordinary kind and played a blinder. We all know how he bats, nothing much to predict, when it comes off he always gets a special inning today and he helped us get 350 plus on Day 1 and hopefully we can add more tomorrow.”
