The 2022 edition of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup is happening in New Zealand right now. Many fans considered the Indian women’s cricket team as favorites to win the tournament, but the Women in Blue failed to qualify for the semifinals. Because of luck factor, West Indies Women qualified for the semifinals. They will now face the Australian women’s cricket team in the semifinal.
India Women needed just one point from their last group stage match against the South African women’s cricket team to qualify for the semifinals. Even if the match was abandoned, they would have qualified. Previously, the match between the women’s cricket teams of West Indies and South Africa was abandoned because of rain.
The Indian women’s cricket team was close to defeating the South African women’s cricket team, but an unlucky no-ball in the final over cost the Women in Blue a place in the semifinals.
“Jhulan’s experience would have added a lot but it was a good opportunity for the other bowlers. Everything does come to an end, it will take some time to settle the emotions but that’s what sport is… Thanks to everybody who’s turned out for every game of India. It was great to have all of you cheering for the girls. I hope you continue to support women’s cricket, the Indian Women’s team in the coming years,” India captain Mithali Raj said after the match.
