MS Dhoni is a cricketer who changed the landscape of Indian cricket forever. Under his leadership, the Indian cricket team won the ICC T20 World Cup in 2007, the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011 and also the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. Not many cricketers have made an impact on this sport like Dhoni.
Like almost every team sport, in cricket, there is a jersey number specifically assigned to every cricketer. There are two numbers, one is the cap number and the other is jersey number. The cap number determines how many cricketers played cricket for a specific team before the number that is being given to the debutant. Meanwhile, cricketer have their own choice while selecting jersey numbers.

Before MS Dhoni, Javagal Srinath, former Indian fast bowler wore the number 7 jersey in white-ball matches for the country. Srinath was one of the top Indian fast bowlers of his time. After Srinath, MS Dhoni donned this number and now many fans believe that the number should not be given to any player.
The reason behind it is Dhoni’s legacy. When Shardul Thakur wore the number 10 jersey, fans were angry as they believed 10 was the number of Sachin Tendulkar, and the jersey number should be retired. BCCI has not yet retired jersey number 7, but currently no Indian cricketer has taken up the jersey number 7 after Dhoni’s retirement from international cricket.
