Why Gautam Gambhir was seen arguing with the umpire? Here’s the real reason

Known for his fiery behaviour on the cricket field, Gautam Gambhir has often found himself embroiled in controversies due to his outspoken nature. This was evident once again during Sunday’s match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2024 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

An altercation began when Virat Kohli clashed with the umpires over a contentious dismissal involving a waist-high full toss. Despite recent strained relations, Gambhir and Kohli found themselves at odds once more during this encounter. However, Gambhir’s anger stemmed from a different issue, particularly when KKR found themselves in a precarious position.

With just two overs remaining, the umpires informed KKR captain Shreyas Iyer that they couldn’t have more than five fielders outside the circle during the final 12 deliveries. Gambhir expressed his dissatisfaction with this ruling and, accompanied by Chandrakant Pandit, sought clarification from the fourth official.

Gambhir’s contention was the frequent interruptions during the match. However, the umpire clarified that the restriction was imposed not due to interruptions but rather because of the slow over rate by the bowler.

Despite the disagreement, Gambhir maintained his composure and returned to his seat as KKR clinched a thrilling victory, winning by a solitary run.
