India's pace attack

India’s pace attack is one of the best of all time. Five bowlers, namely, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Siraj and Ishant Sharma have shouldered the fast-bowling responsibilities of the country in Test cricket over the last five to six years. Pace-bowling all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Shardul Thakur have also contributed their bit when present in the team.

One of the major reasons behind the team’s success in overseas Test matches since 2017 is that India’s current pace attack has troubled the opposition batters a lot. It is not something that used to happen frequently in cricket matches before 2017.

A Twitter user recently shared a statistic that proves why India’s current pace attack is the best of all time. Here is the stat:

India and England are currently playing the rescheduled fifth Test match of their ICC World Test Championship series. England scored 284 runs in their first innings. Jonny Bairstow scored a ton, but the other English batters could not support him much.

The visitors bowled 61.3 overs in the innings, but only two overs were of spin. Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja bowled only two overs, conceding three runs. Pacers bowled the remaining 59.3 overs and bagged all 10 wickets. Mohammed Siraj was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4/66.
