Almost every team now has one or two injury problems. It is unavoidable in the current era, with so much cricket being played. That said, captains going through this is a big problem for the teams concerned.

1) Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins is not playing in the ongoing tournaments against South Africa. He has been rested to avoid aggravating his injury. It appears that he is not match-fit and that is a big problem for the Aussies. Cummins is the leader of the bowling attack and will have a big role to play in the middle and the end overs. He also offers terrific batting depth and of course, in this short while so far, he has also been brilliant as a skipper. Australia does have suitable replacement options for him as a captain but as a player, it’s hard to match him.

2) Kane Williamson

Kane Williamson is also one of the first-choice captains for the 2023 ODI World Cup who are currently unfit. It was in the first match of IPL 2023 that Williamson injured his knee. He had knee issues earlier and hence, he was ruled out for a while. Initially, it was said that he would miss the 2023 ODI World Cup. However, he is recovering well and is also batting in the nets. It is not sure if he will return in time but the Kiwis will hope that their talisman skipper and the batter will be available for the 2023 ODI WC.
