Playing for India in international cricket is the dream of every cricketer of India. However, it is not easy to make it to the squad of 15 and the playing XI of the nation. Thousands of players see this dream, but only a few can actually fulfill it.
Plus of course, just making it to the Indian team is not enough. To have a successful career, a player needs to perform well and needs to have a little luck on his side, so that he receives a longer rope from the team management.
Unfortunately, not all players are able to grab the opportunities they receive or even if they perform well, they are overlooked for the next series. A player’s career normally lasts for a decade after his international debut. In this listicle though, we will look at two such players who made their debut in international cricket in 2016 and have retired already.
1. Pawan Negi made his international cricket debut in 2016
Former Indian all-rounder Pawan Negi was popular for his left-arm spin, explosive batting and fantastic fielding. Despite being the perfect all-round package, Negi only received one T20I cap in his entire career. It was against UAE during the 2016 Asia Cup.
Negi surprisingly went unsold in all IPL Auctions after 2022. He has retired from all formats of international matches, domestic games and IPL. The spinner turned up for India Champions in World Championship of Legends recently.
2. Gurkeerat Singh Mann
Known for his finishing skills in the batting department and ability to bowl a few overs of spin when needed, Gurkeerat Singh Mann broke into the Indian team in 2016. He played three ODIs for the team against Australia away from home, where he could not perform as per the expectations.
Gurkeerat was subsequently dropped and never played for India. He won IPL 2022 with Gujarat Titans, but he did not receive too many chances in IPL after that. Now, he has retired, and he plays in Legends tournaments as well.
