The interest level of fans in ODIs has declined after the 2019 World Cup. One of the major reasons behind it is that the International Cricket Council focused more on T20 and Test format in the four years after the mega event of the ODI format. Another reason is that even the Asia Cup was played in T20 format in 2022, and two T20 World Cups and two WTC Finals have happened since the last World Cup.
A majority of the top nations reduced focus on ODI cricket and often sent second-string teams to play the 50-over series. However, at the same time, there have been some countries who have focused on 50-over format although the World Cup was far away. These teams kept the 2023 World Cup as their target and maintained a win percentage of more than 60.
Four nations have a win percentage of more than 60 after the 2019 WC, with India holding the third spot. India have won 62.7% of their ODI matches since their defeat against New Zealand in the semifinals. Here are the only two teams with a better win percentage than India.
1. Pakistan has the best win percentage in ODIs after 2019 World Cup – 67.9%
It may surprise a few fans but both teams having a better win percentage than India in ODIs after the 2019 WC failed to qualify for the semifinals of the mega event. One of them is Pakistan. The Babar Azam-led outfit have been the most consistent team in the 50-over format, having won 67.9% of their matches after the WC 2019.
Pakistan will aim to continue in the same vein when they co-host the Asia Cup and travel to India for the 2023 Cricket World Cup later this year.
2. Bangladesh – 65%
Bangladesh have been quite impressive in the ODI format. They have recorded wins against India and England in the last few months only. Bangladesh have taken full advantage of home conditions when inviting other nations for an ODI series. They have even done well overseas and have a 65% win rate.
